ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Classically trained in Pietrasanta, Italy, Kim Mosley
brings the traditional art form of stone sculpture into
the modern age. Her sculptures are raw and refined. Stone carving fulfills her physical need to create form
while nurturing her spirit, combining the beauty in each stone with her creations.
Kim's paintings and mixed media are greatly influenced by her studies at the Indonesian Art Institute in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Currently, Kim resides as a full-time artist on Maui and creates both paintings and sculptures that reflect the serenity of places, moments, and circumstances in her life. She also shares her vast knowledge and talent by teaching students privately.
BIO:
Kim's life purpose began at an early age. As a child she excelled in drawing, perfecting her vision of reality. Her style took a sharp turn when surrealistic images seemed the only escape from the internal turmoil of adolescence. This young woman's love for art led her in the fine art department at UCSC. However, it was her adventurous spirit that took her to Italy and Indonesia where she entered intensive art programs.
She has transcended her critical voice without compromising the quality of her work and thoroughly enjoys the meditative process of her art. Stone carving fulfills her physical need to create form; however, it is her inner spirit which brings forth the true beauty of each stone.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Indonesia was much more than experimenting with techniques and mastering creativity; it was a life altering experience. The pressures of perfection in a rigorous art program and the challenges of being a minority in a foreign culture, forced me to look within for strength and inspiration. My journey inward was the profound awakening of my inner spirit.
Through this spiritual guidance I began looking at the world through aesthetic eyes and my brush strokes started capturing life's subtle beauty. This opened a world of creative possibilities and gave me a strong sense of self-confidence and independence.
My love for stone sculpture took me to Pietrasanta, Italy, to study under master sculptors and it was there that I truly learned the art of sculpting anatomy.
My current body of work serves as proof of my integrity to honestly portray the inner peace within myself and my subjects.
I see the divine serenity in all of my subjects and if I can help other people discover and appreciate the beauty of their own spirit through my art, than I know that I have succeeded in serving my purpose as a fine artist and an alchemist.
